Wilderness Trail Guide

RESPONSIBLE TO: Wilderness Director
WAGES: Stipend + room and board while campers are here, or raise personal support

JOB SUMMARY: The Trail Guide position primarily involves leading week long backpack trips, bike trips, and base camps with high school youth. Trail Guides use challenging activities in the outdoors to introduce, emphasize, and reinforce Biblical truths. Trail Guides must be able to instruct and demonstrate backcountry travel skills, as well as lead morning devotions, facilitate evening campfire talks, and challenge campers to live more Christ-like lives. Trail Guides must model a life that is Christ centered and be able to communicate the gospel clearly in a way that high school students can understand. Trail Guides must make a two summer commitment.

QUALIFICATIONS: Wilderness Trail Guides must:

  1. Profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and possess a desire/commitment to serve Him and other people.
  2. Preferably be at least 21 years of age. (Some exceptions made).
  3. Preferably hold a Wilderness First Aid certificate or equivalent and a cardiopulmonary resuscitation certificate. (May be obtained during staff training for a nominal fee.)
  4. Be able to teach and communicate effectively.
  5. Have an ability/desire to learn new skills.
  6. Be in excellent physical condition.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To proclaim the truth and love of Jesus Christ through a lifestyle that imitates His.
  2. To share the gospel message clearly to all campers.
  3. To lead Bible studies and morning quiet times.
  4. To capitalize on teachable moments and draw spiritual analogies from activities so that campers can see the practical application of scripture.
  5. To find out out where campers are spiritually and seek to help them take the next step in their walk with God.
  6. To be competent at the skills necessary to provide a secure environment for the guests during their trip.
  7. To instruct campers in the skills necessary for a successful trip.
  8. To prepare for wilderness trips and assist in evaluation and follow-up.
  9. To be a contributing member of the Camp Redcloud staff by lending support and encouragement.
  10. To attend all staff meetings and Bible Studies.
  11. To complete other duties as assigned.

CAMP REDCLOUD'S RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Offer weekly staff Bible Studies.
  2. Provide opportunity to attend church in Lake City on Sunday morning or a worship service at Camp.
  3. Give opportunity to talk with leadership staff about any personal questions.
  4. Train all program staff in the philosophy and policies of Camp.
  5. Maintain an atmosphere which allows for easy communication and freedom to clear up misunderstandings.
